For years, the dogs at the City of Houston Bureau of Animal Regulation and Control (BARC) have been underfed. The situation has gotten worse under the new director, Ray Sim, hired by Mayor Bill White and many dogs are starving. (UPDATE: Ray Sim was fired on July 7, 2009 after being in the position for 9 weeks. We are continuing our campaign to make sure that Mayor White hires someone who is competent and will feed the dogs.)
There are so many other problems at BARC that will need to addressed eventually but none of these matter if the dogs are being slowly starved.
TELL MAYOR WHITE TO FEED THE DOGS NOW!
HOW: By sending the Mayor a letter that simply states, "Feed the dogs!" or "Please hire someone who will feed the dogs!" along with enough dry dog food for one meal or more if you're able. Please keep the letters just this simple and don't get personal, send threats or write about other issues. We just want the dogs fed adequately on a regular basis at this point.
WHY: By doing this, we can show Mayor White that people all over the city, state and country are watching how well he handles his administration as he moves forward in his quest for a seat in the Senate. We can also show how easy it is to deliver a dog food.
WHEN: July 16, 17 and 18, 2009. Letters and dog food will be sent on the same weekend that Houston hosts the Reliant World Series of Dog Shows. This event brings well fed dogs from all over to the city for one of the largest dogs shows in the country.
WHO: YOU! No matter where you live. Mayor White has national political aspirations. Do we really want someone in Washington who can't even get an employee of his administration to do their job and humanely feed dogs? Let him know that you are watching. If Mayor White's political aspirations aren't enough, please do it for the dogs.
Send letters and kibble to:
Mayor Bill White
